Quality. Creativity. Responsibility. And a unique, artistic style. Artesanos is, we think you’ll agree, a store unlike any other.
Visitors to our 5,000 square-foot showroom in Durango, including folks from Scottsdale, Sedona and Sante Fe, are often surprised by the quality and artistic expression of the items we sell. That’s the result of a generation spent traveling and exploring in the interior of Mexico and beyond, establishing contacts with the finest artisans we can find working with wood, iron, copper, wool, glass and tin.
Yet our store is more than its inventory. Housed in what was once an 1890s-era livery stable, Artesanos is a reflection of the qualities that make Durango unique. A city of 17,000 souls located on the banks of the Animas River, Durango is a town with a markedly different attitude. It’s a place where you’re likely to see a “Gone river rafting, be back soon” sign hung on the door in the middle of a weekday afternoon. A place where mass production and high-pressure sales techniques are rarely tolerated. With our “southwestern” and “south-of-the-border” flavors combined with a touch of Colorado’s rustic, highcountry style, Artesanos is – like Durango – a delightful mix of influences, one that we’re happy to complement with our own in-house design services.
Artesanos is also big on sustainability, and that is evident in many of the items we sell. Like the use of reclaimed pine and the beeswax finish that is used in our exclusive line of wormwood furnishings from Mexico. And a line of furniture from India that features mango wood harvested from fruit plantations as older, unproductive trees are replaced with new seedlings. We’re proud to feature these products, and others produced by manufacturers who have become members of the Sustainable Furniture Council out of concern for the environment.
Our position, in turn, gives us the power to influence the evolving process of design and manufacture of the furnishings we sell. It’s these long-established relationships with manufacturers and craftsmen that gives us a level of quality control you won’t find in larger stores. At the same time, it also allows us to create our own custom designs, and even one-of-a-kind items to fit the unique challenges of furnishing your home.
